Did You Know…

šŸ”¹ Helicopters can fly backwards, sideways, and hover in place!

Thanks to their rotating blades and unique design, helicopters are among the most maneuverable aircraft in the sky.

šŸ”¹ The longest non-stop helicopter flight was over 2,200 miles!

In May 1966, two U.S. Army pilots flew a specially modified CH-3E helicopter from California to Florida. They covered 2,213 miles in just 15 hours and 9 minutes. This historic flight set a world record for the farthest distance flown by a helicopter without landing. Additional fuel tanks made the journey possible.

šŸ”¹ Helicopter pilots use pedals to control the tail rotor. This system, known as the anti-torque system, keeps the aircraft stable in the air and prevents it from spinning uncontrollably.

Helicopters play many roles in society. They are essential for search and rescue operations, firefighting, and farming. That’s why every Helo Girlā„¢ has a unique mission!

šŸ”¬ STEAM Learning Tip: Weather Watch!

Fun Activities to Explore Weather

Looking for an exciting activity this summer? Pilots must understand wind patterns for safe flights—especially helicopter pilots. Wind affects takeoffs, landings, and the approach direction for missions.

Try This at Home:

🧭 Windsock Wonderings

Create a simple windsock using paper, tape, and string. Hang your windsock outside and observe its movement. What direction is the wind blowing from? Does it change throughout the day?

This hands-on activity provides a key aviation skill—reading the wind. It connects science to real-world flying.

Tag us with your creations at @HeloGirlsBook and tell us what direction the wind was blowing in your area today!

šŸ’¬ From Kodey: What Inspires Me

Every time I meet a young girl who says, ā€œI didn’t know I could do that,ā€ or ā€œShe looks like me!ā€, I’m reminded why I started Helo Girlsā„¢.

I wanted to create stories where kids visualize themselves as pilots, protectors, problem-solvers, and helpers. When they see this, they believe they can achieve it. Representation truly matters.

Helo Girlsā„¢ is not just about flying helicopters. It embodies safety, courage, kindness, and the power to make a difference. Whether you're fighting fires, protecting your community, helping others in emergencies, or caring for the earth, there's a place for you in aviation—and a mission that needs you.

Thanks for being part of our crew! šŸ’›
